Fostering Growth Through Engaging Activities

At Westmont Elementary, we believe education is more than just academics—it’s about supporting the growth of the whole child. We strive to help students flourish not only in the classroom but also socially and emotionally. Through a variety of engaging opportunities, our students are encouraged to discover their interests, develop their talents, and explore the world around them. From creative expression in the arts to leadership experiences and hands-on learning, we foster a well-rounded environment where every child can thrive and gain the skills needed for lifelong success.

6th Grade Band

The Springfield Platteview Community Schools (SPCS) band program builds upon the musical foundation developed in K–5 music classes. Starting in 6th grade, students have the exciting opportunity to learn to play an instrument through small group lessons held weekly. In addition to these individual lessons, students come together once a week as a full ensemble starting in November, where they learn the skills of rehearsal and performance. You’ll be amazed at the rapid progress these young musicians make, and we invite you to witness their growth and achievements during the concerts throughout the year!

The Community Choir offers students a unique opportunity to expand their musical and performance skills while connecting with others who share a passion for singing. Participants not only grow as musicians but also become part of a vibrant community, making lasting friendships along the way.

At Wesmont Elementary, we use a “den system” to promote a strong sense of community and foster meaningful connections among students. Each student is assigned to one of several dens, each with its own unique theme and identity (such as Ethica, Innovara, Resilio, or Synerix). The goal of the den system is to create a space where students from different grade levels can interact, collaborate, and support one another. Through den meetings and various activities, students build friendships, strengthen their sense of belonging, and develop valuable social and leadership skills, all while enjoying the opportunity to work together toward shared goals.

In music class, students are introduced to the fundamentals of music as they explore rhythm, melody, and harmony. They learn to feel the beat, keep time, and sing with expression, all while developing a deep appreciation for the art of music. Our music program provides students with the opportunity to connect with their creativity and share their musical talents. We invite you to join us for our Westmont Elementary Music Program concerts throughout the year, where our students showcase the skills they’ve been developing in class.

Sixth-grade students in Safety Patrol take on leadership roles and develop a strong sense of responsibility. As patrol members, they help ensure that their peers walk safely to class, engage in positive social interactions, and serve as a presence to discourage bullying. In addition to promoting safety, Safety Patrol members set a positive example for others to follow, building leadership skills and fostering a supportive school environment.

Our Student Council plays a key role in organizing and leading various school activities, giving students the chance to develop leadership and teamwork skills. Council members participate in events such as the Everett and Jude Evan’s Birthday Box Fundraiser, Westmont Food Drive, maintaining  the Caring Closet, quarterly assemblies, school store and other community and school events. Through these activities, Student Council members contribute to a vibrant and engaging school community.
